YORK HOSPITAL 5 DECEMBER 2021
... from the Chief Executive of York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. With 9000 staff across the Trust his message should reach a lot of people and a lot of potential visitors to the exhibition!
United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Last Friday was United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities which helps increase awareness, and promotes the rights and wellbeing of persons with disabilities.
York Hospital is celebrating by hosting an exhibition of the Eleanor Worthington Prize 2020, for work in the visual arts on the theme of disability. It was established in memory of Eleanor Worthington, a severely disabled Anglo-Italian young woman whose enthusiasm for living inspired so many. She lived in York and in Urbino, Italy. The theme of ‘Inclusion of Disability in Raphael’s World’ celebrates the fifth centenary of the painter Raphael from Urbino. This is genuinely a breath-taking exhibition, so the next time you are in York do take a few minutes to enjoy the display while you can.
I am a keen advocate of the incorporation of the arts into the healthcare experience, which I think really can have a positive impact on patient health outcomes. The arts benefit patients by aiding in their physical, mental, and emotional recovery, including relieving anxiety and decreasing the perception of pain.
I’ve worked in several hospitals but I have to say that the artwork we have on display in our hospitals is second to none. Thank you to our arts team who do such inspiring and stimulating displays, time after time.
Thank you for exhibiting with us again at the hospital. The exhibition has made a big impression on our staff and visitors.
Best wishes,
Rachael
