RULES OF THE PRIZE, 2014_2015

1.INTRODUCTION. The Prize began in 2009, in memory of Eleanor Worthington, a  disabled Anglo- Italian young woman, who from 1998 to 2003 attended the Istituto d’Arte/Scuola del Libro in  Urbino, where she was warmly welcome by teachers, administrative staff, and pupils, who made true friendships with her, overcoming communicative and behavioural barriers.

Her family, friends, and school wanted to transform Eleanor’s personal story into a collective experience, for the purpose of raising reflection on the culture of disability especially among young people, expressing it through the language of visual communication, chosen because of its immediacy of expression.

The Prize, now  at its seventh year, was  initially for  Secondary schools in the Marche Region of Italy.

This year a parallel Prize has been set up, reserved to Art Schools at the level of the first three years of Tertiary education. The Prize is organized in cooperation with the Corso di Perfezionamento, Scuola del Libro, Urbino, under the sponsorhip of the  Regional Government of the Italian region of Marche, of the Pesaro-Urbino and  Fermo Provincial Governments, of the City of Urbino, and of various private institutions and individuals.

2. THEME. The theme of the Prize is OVERCOMING BARRIERS. BEYOND DISABILITY”. The chosen theme draws attention to the difficulties which disabled people encounter, in communication, relationships, inclusion at work, and movement within and outside the house, but it also  points to search for insights and suggestions geared at the social inclusion of disabled people and their families.

Participants are asked to enter the competition with works of visual communication, with the relevant techniques and disciplines, such as painting, sculpture, illustration, animation, graphics, photography, design, and multimedia.
