THE 2020 PRIZE "DISABILITY AND THE ENVIRONMENT"

DISABILITY AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The environment can be interpreted both as the set of natural elements such as climate, resourses, the landscape surrounding us, and also as the set of social, urban and living context where we move.

Both aspects are particularly relevant for people with disabilities.

For instance, climate pollution causes and enhances illnesses, environmental disasters create special problems of evacuation and resettlement, the choice of resources determines the environmental sustainability of the future.

An open social context, caring for the special audio-visual-sensory needs of persons with disabilities, viable urban structures, living quarters equipped and welcoming, all encourage an independent and fulfilled life for people with disabilities.

Despite the exceptional circumastance of Covid 19, schools and students have replied enthusiastically, and nine schools from six regions ( (Abruzzo, Marche, Puglia, Toscana, Umbria e Emilia Romagna) have taken part in this twelth year of the Prize, i.e.
