2010/11 PRIZE "TOLERANCE AND ABILITIES" > Submitted works > Passeri O.

For the theme “Tolerance and abilities” I have again taken up Aesop’s fable, which when I was little had taught me to be respectful towards people, because I believe that one must not laugh at different ways of living, or play with other peoples’ difficulties. 

In the story which I have represented, the fox invites for lunch his friend the swan. During the meal the swan realizes that the dish offered by the fox is too low for its own beak, and does not manage to eat; the fox seing what happens starts to laugh so the swan runs away crying, feeling hurt and ridiculed. The following day the swan invites the fox for lunch, sitting at the table the fox does not manage to eat because the dish is too deep and narrow and the snout of the animal cannot enter it. In this way the fox realizes that he has made a mistake in ridiculing her friend, and bursts into tears, until the swan embraces and consoles him.

The story ends with the two of them dining together, but each of them has the appropriate  dish for its own characteristics, in mutual respect: both happy, content, and with full bellies.
