2010/11 PRIZE "TOLERANCE AND ABILITIES" > Submitted works > Grassi

“Tolerance and abilities” is the theme for this project on which we confront ourselves. More than a theme I define ita s a concept with thousands of sides, a stimulus to look beyond our mental limits. The choice of following a so to speak “simple” line, to express my thoughts on this theme, is due to reflections which took me to think that diversity exists, and that we have to be aware of it, but considering it as a value added. Two characters are represented, tight rope walking, and they make a helpful gesture when they realize  the other one’ danger; this is a metaphore which at first may look banal, but includes a much more complex concept: everybody’s life is at any rate linked to other people’s lives. In fact, with the ropes next to each other, I have intended to represent every person’s life, which sooner or later, in living together and in daily life, encounters or bumps into other people’s lives. Therefore the ability to be tolerant should not be a pretext to feel  satisfied of ourselves, but a stimulus to compare ourselves with other people, in an increased understanding of each other.
